Jane Goodall’sRoots & Shoots

根與芽計畫（Roots & Shoots）是由珍古德博士於1991年發起的全球性青年行動計畫， 旨在啟發年輕世代關心人類、動物與環境，並透過實際行動改善世界。
計畫強調「從身邊出發，從行動學習」，鼓勵參與者觀察生活中的問題、發展解決方案， 並在過程中培養同理心、批判性思考與合作能力。無論是校園、社區還是家庭， 每一個角落都可以成為行動的起點，讓希望透過每一個孩子的參與而茁壯成長。
Jane Goodall’s Roots & Shoots is a global youth action programme founded by Dr. Jane Goodall in 1991. It inspires young people to care for people, animals, and the environment—and to take meaningful action to make a difference.
With a focus on”starting where you are and learning through action,” the program encourages children and youth to observe the world around them, identify issues that matter, and develop creative solutions. Along the way, they build empathy, critical thinking, and teamwork skills. Whether in schools, communities, or at home, every place can become a launchpad for action—and every child a source of hope for a better future.

根與芽計畫透過「連結、學習、行動、分享」四個核心步驟， 支持孩子們從觀察與感受出發，轉化為具體行動力。 我們相信，每個年輕人都有改變世界的力量，而根與芽計畫正是點燃這股力量的起點。

We empower young changemakers through four core steps. At Jane Goodall’s Roots & Shoots, we believe every young person has the power to make a difference—and this is where that journey begins.

帶領孩子走進自然、走入社區，建立與人、動物及環境之間的情感連結與關懷心。
Connect
Helping children build emotional bonds with nature, people, and animals through real-life experiences in their communities.

Offering diverse tools and resources to explore local and global issues and grow their ability to respond to challenges.

根與芽驚喜箱
根與芽驚喜箱不只是一套教案工具，而是一段充滿故事與行動的旅程，引導孩子與自然連結、探索生物多樣性，並在真實生活中發起具意義的改變。以海洋及生物多樣性等保育主題為核心，每個驚喜箱都包含豐富的學習素材，並依循「建立關係、探索學習、勇敢行動、表達分享」四大教學階段進行。
國際珍古德協會的根與芽團隊擁有豐富的教育現場經驗與環境行動實務，能夠全程提供教學引導與行動輔導，幫助老師與學生在課程設計、敘事表達與社區參與等層面建立能力。每一個驚喜箱最終都會引導學生發展出一個屬於他們的根與芽行動計畫，從關懷動物、保育棲地到社區倡議，讓孩子們不僅學會知識，更具備實際發起改變的勇氣與方法。
自計畫啟動以來，已有超過200個驚喜箱走入臺灣各地教室，激發孩子的同理心與好奇心，培養他們守護地球的熱情與行動力。
Roots & Shoots Hope Box Program
The Roots & Shoots Hope Box is more than just a teaching kit—it’s a journey filled with storytelling and action, guiding children to connect with nature, explore biodiversity, and initiate meaningful change in their own lives. Centered around themes such as marine conservation and biodiversity, each box includes rich learning materials and follows a four-stage educational framework: Connect, Learn, Act, and Celebrate.
The Roots & Shoots of Jane Goodall Institute Taiwan, brings depth in both classroom education and environmental action, offering full guidance and support throughout the program. Teachers and students receive capacity-building support in areas such as lesson planning, storytelling, and community engagement. Every Hope Box culminates in a student-led Roots & Shoots project—whether protecting wildlife, conserving habitats, or advocating within their communities—ensuring children not only gain knowledge but also the confidence and tools to make a real impact.
Since its launch, over 200 Hope Boxes have reached classrooms across Taiwan, inspiring empathy, curiosity, and a lifelong passion for protecting the Earth.
生態藝術行動
根與芽的生態藝術行動的「動物遊行」是一場充滿歡樂與力量的行動展現，體現了根與芽計畫的核心價值──同理心、創造力與實際行動。正如這段影片所呈現的（請看這裡），孩子們裝扮成自己喜愛的動物，手持標語、布偶與自創故事，走上街頭，為無聲的生命發聲。這不只是繽紛的慶典，更是由學生主導的倡議行動，喚起大眾對瀕危物種、棲地消失與生態保育的關注。
動物遊行結合了藝術、研究、表演與公共參與，讓孩子們深度連結自然，了解保育議題，並在社區中採取有意義的行動，進而啟發更多人加入守護生命的行列。這正是根與芽精神的具體實踐：年輕的行動者以知識、關懷與希望，勇敢地邁出改變的步伐。
Roots & Shoots Eco-Art Program
The Roots & Shoots Animal Parades are a joyful and powerful expression of empathy, creativity, and action—core values at the heart of the Roots & Shoots programme. As seen in this short video, students take to the streets dressed as their favourite animals, carrying signs, puppets, and stories they’ve created to speak out for the voiceless. These parades are more than just colourful celebrations—they are student-led campaigns that raise awareness about endangered species, habitat loss, and the importance of protecting life in all its forms.
By combining art, research, performance, and public engagement, Animal Parades allow young people to connect deeply with the natural world, learn about conservation challenges, take meaningful action in their communities, and inspire others to care. It’s a vivid example of Roots & Shoots in motion: young changemakers stepping forward with knowledge, compassion, and hope.
保育計畫
Conservation Programs
綠拇指
綠拇指計畫是一項強調動手實作與場域學習的教育行動，鼓勵學生親手打造校園中的原生植物與野生動物棲地，將校園轉化為充滿生命力的生態學習場域。學生透過設計、種植與照顧花園的過程，深入理解生態系間的相互關係，並學習在都市與郊區空間中恢復綠地的重要性。
截至目前，我們已在全台各地建立超過230座校園綠拇指園地，讓每一座校園都成為自然的教室與生物多樣性的避風港。我們融合科學知識、永續精神與學生主導的行動，培養孩子對環境的責任感與歸屬感。在種植的同時，他們也在心中種下了同理心、好奇心與守護自然的熱忱。
Wildlife Gardens
The Wildlife Garden Project is an educational initiative that emphasizes hands-on learning and place-based learning, encouraging students to create native plants and wildlife habitats on campus, transforming the campus into a vibrant ecological learning place. Through the process of designing, planting, and caring for their gardens, students gain a deeper understanding of the interrelationships between ecosystems and learn the importance of restoring green spaces in urban and suburban spaces.
To date, we have established more than 230 campus wildlife gardens across Taiwan, making each campus a classroom for nature and a haven for biodiversity. We integrate scientific knowledge, sustainability, and student-led actions to foster a sense of responsibility and belonging to the environment. While planting, they are also planting empathy, curiosity and a passion for nature.
我們的海洋 Oceans Are Us
《我們的海洋 Oceans Are Us》是一個沉浸式的環境教育計畫，帶領學生認識人類生活與海洋之間緊密的關聯。結合「根與芽驚喜箱」課程架構，每個單元都包含實作材料、故事引導與設計良好的學習活動，透過「建立關係、探索學習、勇敢行動、表達分享」四大階段，引導學生深入了解海洋生態系，認識人類活動對海洋的影響，並親自規劃並執行保護海洋與沿海環境的行動計畫。
計畫也透過與印度、新加坡、馬來西亞與日本國際珍古德協會的合作，建立跨國交流與合作平台，讓學生有機會分享在地行動成果、交流想法，並作為全球根與芽網絡的一員，共同守護我們賴以生存的蔚藍星球。《Oceans Are Us 我們的海洋》不僅激發學習熱情，更點燃行動的力量，培養下一代成為充滿熱情的海洋守護者。
Oceans Are Us
‘Oceans Are Us’ is an immersive environmental education program that introduces students to the close connection between human life and the ocean. Combined with the “Roots and Shoots Surprise Box” curriculum framework, each unit contains hands-on materials, storytelling and well-designed learning activities. Through the four stages of “Building Relationships, Exploring and Learning, Acting with Courage, and Expressing and Sharing”, the program guides students to gain a deeper understanding of the marine ecosystem, the impact of human activities on the oceans, as well as to personally plan and implement an action plan for the protection of the marine and coastal environments.
The program also establishes a platform for cross-country exchanges and cooperation through collaboration with the International Association of Junkyard Societies in India, Singapore, Malaysia, and Japan, giving students the opportunity to share the results of their local actions, exchange ideas, and work together as part of the global Roots and Shoots network to protect the blue planet on which we depend for our survival. Oceans Are Us” not only inspires learning, but also ignites the power of action, nurturing the next generation to become passionate ocean guardians.
